When “they” talk about thinking outside the box, it used to drive me crazy. I could not recognize, much less admit that I am not open minded, or naturally think outside of confinements put in place by myself, culture and society. And then, I was looking to design the interior of my closet. I was unimpressed with the kits that exist for pre-fab wardrobes, and uninspired by anything else I saw.
Then one day when I was in my kitchen I had a revelation. I hold my shoe collection near and dear to my heart. My shoes are the anchor of my wardrobe, and as such should be readily accessible and easily viewed. What I was looking for had been infront of me all along, just in a place I never thought to look. I needed something for the closet, and expected it would be a traditional bedroom item.
The slideout drawers that I have in my kitchen cabinets are perfectly suited for my bedroom closet. Instead of kitchen implements, tools and such, my beloved shoes get nestled inside. I made one change, and angled the wood so the shoes are on display. After all they are my babies, I want to see each and everyone as often as possible.
Finally, thinking outside the box. Guess, “they” do know what they are talking about.
