Getting a free credit report is a good way to obtain an overview of your financial health. It also lets you see how attractive – or unattractive – you might be to prospective lenders.

Credit reports basically provide you with your credit rating or score. This information is used by anyone with whom you might enter into a borrowing arrangement; for example, a credit card company, mortgage provider or bank or building society for a loan. The reports allow lenders to judge whether you are a potentially good customer for them.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that they are only concerned with how big a risk you might be in terms of being able to repay the debt. Lenders are also looking out for people who always pay off their credit card bill on time every month or switch cards regularly to get 0% deals. These customers are not going to make them any money in the way of charges so may also be deemed unappealing.

It’s worth checking your credit rating annually. Look out for any mistakes and make sure all the information is up to date, especially if you have moved house. It’s also a good way of making sure that you are not a victim of identity theft by ensuring that no applications for credit have been made in your name by someone else.

To fully make sense of your credit report you need tips on ratings and what they mean. Basically, the higher the score you receive the more likely it is that you will be able to access a better range of loan, mortgage or credit card deals. Better in this case means the ones with the lowest rates.

Apart from giving you a number, your credit report should also put that figure into some context for you so you understand what it means and how that will impact on your ability to get the credit you want.

Remember that your credit score is a snapshot of your financial circumstances at any given time and it is something all of us can actually influence and change. If you know you are going to be applying for something very important like a mortgage or a loan, it’s a good idea to check your credit rating in advance. That way you will know if you need to do anything to improve it to ensure you have the best possible chance of getting the product you want.

The old saying that a man’s home is his castle is as true today as at any time in the past. Owning a home is a lifetime dream for most and once people achieve this dream of home ownership, most want to take any steps they can to make their home a beautiful place to be. Fortunately, there are a lot of different ways to do this, from choosing great paint colors to selecting the right furniture. As with any great outfit though, it can be the accessories that make the home.

This means that, just as you wouldn’t leave the house without a great pair of earrings, you shouldn’t neglect the finishing touches on your home in order to make your decorating complete. The right finishing touches will vary depending on the specific style of house you have, but in every case, paying attention to the details when finishing off your home decorating project is essential to making sure your home looks as good as possible.

One area of consideration for many people is the shutters on their home. A lot of houses tend to have flat shutters that are just stuck up against a house. While this can look very attractive and has become a popular trend, it is always clear that the shutters do not look real and aren’t functional. Although it’s perfectly fine to have shutters just for decorative purposes, you can give your house an extra touch of authenticity and class by adding accessories such as faux hinges and a faux shutter hook that makes it appear as if the shutters are being held open against the house. This touch is especially useful on homes that are older or that are trying to resemble older or more traditional homes.

Other unique accessories to consider for your home can be found both inside and outside. For instance, when you are building a new home, you may want to make sure that the finish on the hinges for your interior doors all match the finish on the door knobs. If you opt for brushed nickel on the door knobs, for example, making sure you have brushed nickel hinges can be a great way to get a cohesive look. While you may not consciously notice what color the hinge is every time you open the door, everything will just give that finished and put-together look, even if you aren’t quite sure why.

Of course, if your house already has doors on it, you aren’t going to replace the hinges in most cases just to make the metal match. Replacing door knobs, however, can be a simple project and can be a very worthwhile investment if you have plain builders grade knobs. A knob that has a decorative design or that is made of glass can also be a great touch to upgrade your house.

One door you should never ignore when putting the finishing touches on your home is your main exterior door to the outside. Your front and/or side door is the first thing that you and your guests see when they come to your home. First impressions count in home décor, just as they do everywhere else in life and having an impressive door knob and an impressive door bell can all be useful in making sure that you make a good first impression on anyone coming to your home. Making sure the door itself is attractive is also useful, as is adding additional decorative or functional door furniture, which can help complete the look of the home.

Not knowing what to do when an accident occurs is perfectly normal. Few people live their lives in readiness of disaster, but planning for the worst should not be regarded as a form of compulsive behaviour or paranoia. Contingency measures often prove invaluable in times of emergency, so at least some thought should be given to accidents.

Injury

Most accidents occur at home, in the workplace or on the road. An accident can cause injury, illness or emotional distress. People who suffer injuries often display symptoms of shock, while those who are in the process of recovering may experience depression, anxiety or some other psychological condition.

The important point to remember when an accident has occurred is that panic helps nobody. Though sometimes difficult in practice, accident victims ought to calmly identify what injuries might have been caused. They should also seek professional medical help without delay. This is not to suggest, however, that the accident victim should do nothing else at the scene of the accident; on the contrary, he can obtain various details to support a subsequent insurance or compensation claim. Such details may include contact information for other parties involved, the time, date and location of the incident, whether anybody witnessed the accident and the circumstances that caused the injury.

Lawyers

After medical care has been sought, the accident victim ought to carefully weigh his options and consider hiring a personal injury lawyer. Litigation might be a possibility if negligence can be established. To establish negligence, the claimant’s legal representatives must be able to prove that the defendant owed their client a duty of care at the time of the accident. The law also requires that the duty was breached by the defendant and that the breach caused the injury or illness in question.

Contacting a no-win, no-fee solicitor for a free consultation is advisable at this stage because the accident victim may not be confident that he has sufficient grounds to make a claim for compensation. Proceeding with litigation without the help of no-win, no-fee lawyers, whose fees are covered by insurance, can be extremely expensive and complex. A good no-win, no-fee lawyer will provide guidance on whether a claim is worth pursuing before offering to represent the injured person.

Finally, the accident victim ought not to wait too long before initiating proceedings against the defendant. In England and Wales, personal injury claims must be made within three years from the date on which the cause of action occurred unless the injured person was aged under eighteen at the time of the accident or only became aware of his injuries at a later date.

Finding the time to fit a in a visit to the gym can be difficult for many of us who lead busy lives. Working hours, a long commute and child caring commitments can make it impossible to maintain a regular gym or exercise class schedule. We all know the importance of exercise in our lives. It helps us stay fit, healthy, cope with stress and maintain an ideal weight. If you have trouble finding the time to attend class, the gym or commit to playing on your local sports team then exercising at home could be the ideal solution for you.

Exercising at home does not mean you have to have a substandard workout. On the contrary, you can fit in extremely effective cardiovascular and weight training sessions from the comfort of your own home and at a vastly reduced cost, when compared to gym membership. If you like the teacher, pupil aspect of classes then an exercise DVD could be ideal for you. The market in exercise DVD’s is extensive and there are so many options out there including aerobics, step aerobics, boxercise, weight training, yoga and Pilates.

As they are relatively cheap it is easy to build up a collection to keep you interested. It is also an excellent way to try out new types of exercise before committing to a class. If you have the floor space you can enjoy a really tough workout from the comfort if your living room! Exercise DVD’s are perfect for those who like to have instruction and advice on technique.

You can also get creative and create your own circuit. Warm up with a walk or run around the block, you can even take your child with you in the buggy if you need to. When you get home and are sufficiently warmed up you can start a series of toning and resistance exercises. Try push ups, pull ups, chair dips, stomach crunches, squats, lunges and calve raises to help you tone up and build strength. If you are a beginner start with one set of ten to twelve reps of each exercise and build up to two and then three sets performed in a circuit about three times a week. You will soon start to see results!

If you prefer to use equipment and can afford to invest in something like a weights bench, exercise bike or even a treadmill, this is a fantastic way to bring the gym directly to your home! Just be confident you will actually use the equipment and not turn them into clothes horses! Equipment does not have to be expensive. Even a set of dumbbells and a skipping rope can add to an effective workout and certainly won’t break the bank.

The great thing about exercising at home is that you can do it anytime that suits you. Keep yourself motivated with some fashionable clothes from Volcom UK, perhaps in that smaller size you intend to get into! Once you have made the initial investment on any equipment you would like, that’s it. There are no monthly membership fees to worry about.

Rules implemented last year require divorcing couples to enter arbitration before heading to court, but solicitors have expressed concern that the guidelines are not being followed. As government cuts to legal aid threaten to deprive many prospective litigants of access to justice, some people are electing to represent themselves in the courtroom to save money. DIY divorces may be popular in some parts of England, but finding an affordable family solicitor in Exeter and, indeed, elsewhere, provides complainants with the best opportunity to reach a favourable settlement in or out of court.

Mediation

Having been made law in 2011, rules requiring divorcing couples to mediate were intended to reduce the costs associated with litigation by settling divorce cases early. Few people would argue that the new guidelines are not a positive step forward in so far as they promote mediation above litigation, but there is a danger that the changes will merely reinforce a two-tier system of justice as cutbacks to legal aid are implemented.

Divorcing couples are already showing a reluctance to enter arbitration due to financial concerns, so the situation is likely to worsen as more people are denied legal aid in family law cases. The Government intends to cut spending on legal aid by £350 million a year, meaning that free advice and legal representation will not be provided for the majority of applicants. Wealthy litigants will be able to afford the best representation, but impecunious couples are set to struggle. It is likely that many will resort to representing themselves in a bid to secure justice.

Mediation does offer a faster, cheaper way to settle a divorce than thrashing out details in the courtroom, but couples who cannot afford this may also be representing themselves, so the arbitration system only saves money for litigants who have funds in the first place.

Solicitors

The role of family law solicitors in divorce proceedings ought not to be underestimated. Advising clients at every stage of litigation, solicitors will even brief barristers ahead of court appearances. Professional legal representation provides litigants with access the resources they need in order to obtain the best possible divorce settlement. Self-representation, on the other hand, provides complainants with an extraordinarily easy opportunity to make significant mistakes. There is no substitute for professional legal representation.

DIY divorces may be on the rise as a result of financial pressure, but affordable family law solicitors can still be found. Money can be saved on divorces by entering the arbitration system, but no penny is worth sparing if litigants are required to go to court without professional representation.

Today’s models, including many of the huge range of conservatories at Argos come in a variety of shapes, sizes and materials. Your choice ultimately depends on the purpose for which you wish to use your conservatory and, of course, your budget. You may wish to use your conservatory as a dining room, office or playroom, but in any case you’ll need to calculate the space required. For a dining room large enough to seat six to eight people, for example, you’ll need a conservatory that covers approximately 130 square feet.

It is also important to check if you require planning permission and which building regulations, if any, apply. According to the Fenestration Self-Assessment Scheme (FENSA), a conservatory must be separated from the rest of your home by external doors. Seventy-five per cent of the roof area and 50% of the wall area must be made from glass or another translucent material. If heated, a conservatory must have its own separate heating controls.

Contemporary conservatories are typically simple square or rectangular structures. In contrast, traditional conservatories, such as Georgian, Victorian or Edwardian models, tend to be more ornate and may be constructed from different sections to form the shape of a letter “P” or letter “T”. Sometimes, a traditional section is combined with a lean-to section to create a P-shape. Alternatively, a larger middle section can be combined with two symmetrical wings to create a T-shape.

Once you’ve decided on the size, style and shape of your conservatory, you will need to choose the type of frame and roof. Some conservatories are constructed from low maintenance PVC. Some may utilise composite conservatory frames, with aluminium on the outside and wood on the inside, to reduce the amount of maintenance required.

Polycarbonate sheeting is the most popular form of conservatory roofing, although glass is another possibility. Any glass in your conservatory should be double-glazed, laminated and capable of retaining heat without overheating the conservatory. As far as the slope or pitch of the conservatory roof is concerned, a steeper pitch – of around 25 degrees or so – allows the roof to stay cleaner than a shallower pitch.

Finally, consider at which times of day, or times of year, you’re likely to use your conservatory as this will affect the way in which you light the space. If you want to use your conservatory as a dining room, you may opt for soft, general lighting provided by spotlights or table lamps. If you want to use it as an office, you’ll need bright, task lighting allowing you to focus in your work space.

As a homeowner, my ears always perk up when I hear tales of woe involving squatters. Surely, you’ve heard unbelievable stories involving what sounds like the most ridiculous ways adverse possession can be claimed. Lately, it seems like the rumours are getting more outrageous by the minute. I for one wish things were made clear on this subject by the government. Most of us worked long and hard for years to acquire, and keep up payments on our houses. There should be no room for doubt as to how we might end up losing these precious commodities.

Now, I can grasp the theory behind laws that allow for property once registered by purchasers, and then obviously abandoned by them, to be claimed by others. I believe the rules state that land is considered to be a finite resource, and should be fully utilized. Or, at least I think I understand, and that there is my point precisely. If we all fully comprehended the law the grim stories we hear could be identified as either truth or fallacy. One such story I heard was of a person, unknown to a homeowner, who entered their dwelling through an unlocked door. Somehow, it is alleged that because the owner of the house did not lock the door, the person who would otherwise be deemed a trespasser, has the right to remain in the home.

I wish I could say that by referring to the rules on this subject all could be made abundantly clear. That has not been my experience, and I think that means something is wrong. The spirit of the law is not completely represented, and therefore obvious.

One of the looks of the Spring season that I see as a must have is being touted as Modern Romance. What precisely does that entail? Glad you asked. It takes the classic feminine details such as lace, ruffles and peplums and combines them with more dramatic styles in one garment. The favoured dramatic styles being geometric and body skimming.

Now that you’ve got a picture in your mind of the things listed that you like you can build from there. Create a whole outfit by accessorizing these modern romantic garments with understated pieces. Belts are skinny and relatively plain. Nails should be pale, or clear and matching toes with fingers is optimal. In this instance the clothes are the feature, so the make up is dainty and demure. Remember though a great red lip can be considered understated if blotted repeatedly and matte. So you don’t have to feel washed out on top, much less all over. This is not an attempt to get approval from your dowdy aunt, or straight laced grandmother. It’s to catch the eye of a chap, and one preferably interested in a modern romance of his own.

Of all the materials available for DIY projects, there is one in particular that I find myself most impressed with recently. That would be none other than wall stickers and they stand out for several reasons. Ironically, though I can bring myself to sing their praises, as of yet I have been unable to decide up which design to put in my own dinning room.

I was first introduced to these removable wall decals when I was invited to a family dinner at my aunt’s house. She is literally renowned for her style, and has even had her home featured in a national home décor magazine. To say that she sets the bar for DIY projects high would be a rather bold understatement.

Many would be tempted to simply copy her handiwork by choosing precisely the same winter tree wall decal that she has put up. That’s fine and dandy for just about anybody else but since she visits my house at least a dozen times a year I think something else would be better. Trouble is I am fond of quite a few of the options, am left undecided and it is she whom I would normally go to for tips on decorating my dwelling. Looks like the only answer is to purchase a couple and see which works best in the space. Certainly, it would be easier to ask for her opinion, but I want to surprise her as I know she will be flattered that I replicated her wall.

Not being of English origin I can’t help but wonder exactly what it would mean should Scotland become an independent country. I understand that because both England and Scotland are members of the European Union there would be no real issue regarding crossing borders. Travellers from what had formerly been the union of Scotland and England would probably see no real change in going back and forth.

However, what would it mean for those of us with American passports? Would Scotland become a member of Schengen, and thus only allow Americans, and the likes to stay for three month intervals, and then be required to stay out of the country for three months? Or would it stick with the United Kingdom rules and allow visitors in for six month periods? I would initially expect the later to become a realization.

Being of another nationality, an uninvolved in the potential break it saddens me. I am not great with change, and imagine for those involved this could mean many different things. Surely, some good and some bad. I suspect only time can answer such questions.
