As I stare into my closet I see the blatant separation between my work ensembles and my personal life attire. For years I have longed to be able to incorporate the two, and I have made actual attempts. Yet, on those days I received not one thumbs up, nor words of praise for my creativity. Hence, I concluded I just didn’t have the knack for it.
But, with the economy the way it is, and everyone who has a job waiting for the other shoe to fall, I am ready to try again. Time to make my suit jackets look hip with jeans, and to integrate some of the fun pieces of jewellery I have collected while travelling into the work garb. After concentrating on what the fashion experts have to say, I now know the key lies in working with classic pieces, and tying them together with some trendy ones. By replacing the silk blouses I often wear under my jackets and sweaters with the cammies I wear on weekends I save a small fortune on dry cleaning.
And by wearing my dressier dark jeans with a crisp white button down I still look dressed to impress but again eliminate the need to bring my slacks, and suit trousers in to the cleaners as often. Wish I had tried harder the last time I attempted this.
Literally, within the first month I have saved enough on my dry cleaning to go out for a meal. Or, more wisely, put into a rainy day fund. But, I can’t be goody goody all the time, so we will see where the money goes.
